Principal Data Engineer, Commercial DataApply locations: Seattle, Washington - Digital time type: Full time - Posted on: Posted 30+ Days Ago - Job requisition id: R17408The Role:In this role, you will be part of the Commercial Data team, playing a key role in defining, building, and advancing Moderna's Commercial strategy. Your mission will be to design and deliver cutting-edge data and analytics solutions that support Moderna's quantitative analysis, AI, decision support, and business reporting. These solutions will form the foundation needed to deliver sophisticated business analytics essential for bringing life-changing medicines to market.We seek an experienced, dynamic, and versatile individual capable of defining end-to-end analytics solutions, pivoting easily between strategy and execution, and passionate about learning and growth in a rapidly expanding business. The ideal candidate will have solid experience developing modern data solutions in Amazon Web Services and a strong understanding of traditional data warehousing paradigms.Responsibilities:

• Partner with leadership to plan, prototype, document, and initiate new projects and programs.
• Analyze business requirements and create conceptual data lake/lakehouse architectures, data models, and processes.
• Lead technical discussions, generate solutions, and evaluate data architecture, models, and processes critically.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers and management to advance and maintain the Data Platform's tech roadmap, promoting the tech agenda and ensuring timely implementation of key initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership within the team.
• Gather, document, and analyze solution requirements; produce development estimates.
• Design, develop, test, and deploy data collection, flow, and transformation components.
• Troubleshoot and support existing data workflows, delivering fixes and optimizations as needed.
• Partner with the user community, software engineers, and operations specialists on data investigations, research, and issue management.Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in senior-level big data architecture and engineering.
  • Passion for leveraging data and analytics to improve business outcomes.
  • Proven effectiveness working on project teams as a developer, architect, or team leader.
  • Experience building data solutions with AWS services (S3, EMR, Data Pipeline, Redshift).
  • Outstanding SQL and Python skills.
  • Experience with Spark and MapReduce is preferred.
  • Experience with information delivery architecture, including tools like Tableau, Looker, Quicksight.
  • Solid development experience with Hadoop ecosystem.
  • Strong understanding of traditional Data Warehousing principles and architecture.
  • Ability to deploy and manage software in Linux environments.
  • Experience working in Agile/SCRUM methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, mentor junior team members, and handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related discipline is preferred.Note: As per Washington State law, Moderna provides a salary range estimate: $142,200 - $256,100 USD, with actual salary based on various factors.
